How to Keep Your Air Conditioner Running Well Through the Fall

August 24, 2016

Your air conditioner has had a lot of work to do this summer and we still have some more heat coming. Just because the date on the calendar has changed over to fall doesn’t mean you’re finished with your AC for the season. Staying on top of annual AC maintenance, while also following a few other tricks, can help you maintain your air conditioner while keeping your home cozy too.

Clean Around Your Outdoor Unit

Debris can build up around your outside unit, particularly during the fall. When the time comes to rake up the leaves in your yard, at least rake up the leaves and debris around your air conditioner. Debris can inhibit air flow, causing your system to work harder and wear down sooner. We want your air conditioner to last as long as it was designed to.

Raise the Temperature on Your Thermostat

Have your thermostat set at the highest temperature you can while still being cozy. Whenever possible, utilize other cooling methods such as fans. The lower you set your thermostat, the harder your system will have to work to attain that temperature. You may think shutting off your unit completely will save on energy and help your system, but that just creates more ground for it to make up when you switch it back on. It will have to work harder for a longer amount of time, which is something else that could lead to premature system failure.

Keep Up With AC Maintenance

Keeping a well-maintained system with routine, annual AC maintenance is so critical. Our technicians will look at your air conditioner thoroughly and be sure the electric is working properly, the coils and filters are clean and so much more. We take a close look to catch little problems before they become big breakdowns and turn in to an AC repair appointment.
