The Next Generation of Cooling Refrigerants.

Refrigerants are liquids stored in your air conditioner’s coils that cool and dehumidify indoor air. If there weren’t refrigerants, there wouldn’t be air conditioning. For years, the most common AC refrigerant was R-22 (Freon), but in 2012 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated the phase-out of R-22 through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, it will no longer be legal to produce R-22 due to its destructive impact to the environment.

Introducing R-410A

R-410ATo decrease environmental impacts, all Lennox® products are now designed to work with the new R-410A AC refrigerant. R-410A is EPA-recognized and contains no chlorine, so it’s ozone-friendly. You can feel at ease using this refrigerant in Columbia because it’ll help make your system perform efficiently, reliably and quietly, and provide the same cool comfort in the warmer months.

Additional Considerations

If your AC or heat pump was manufactured prior to 2010, it may not be R-410A-compatible. You probably should think about upgrading your cooling system before R-22 is ultimately out of production. The old refrigerant will become scarce in the next few years, costing you more to run your system effectively. The Lennox products we offer at Watts Electric & A/C Inc work with R-410A, so you can be sure we have an AC or heat pump that better meets your needs. You should also steer clear of”alternate refrigerants that claim to work in R-22 systems. These include R-407C, R-438A and R-422, all of which can actually compromise your system’s performance.
